About Nourishing Minds

Nourishing Minds Presented by Niagara College Student Administrative Council

For over 20 years, Niagara College has had a food bank for students in need. In the past, students were provided a bag of food containing various items. After careful consideration of dietary restrictions, food allergies and other various factors, the Niagara College Student Administrative Council (“NCSAC”) evolved the program into what is known today as the “Nourishing Minds Program.” Students who request help gaining access to food security apply, and then once approved, are provided gift cards to local grocery stores in denominations of $25.

The Nourishing Minds Program aims to empower students by giving them the ability to select their own food and assists in removing the stigma associated with traditional food bank systems.

Financial Aid, Counselling, Student Services, Health Services and the International Department staff who interact with students through daily interactions, social media, emails or meetings, determine the need of the student and a Nourishing Minds Program request form is completed. The signed request is presented to the NCSAC office and the student given the gift card. The service is done confidentially and has helped many Niagara College students. The program is funded by a collection of donations made to the NCSAC by generous community members and students.
